Roesia Merle. Quilt Display. August 30th , 2017.
Observe a playground of 3 year olds playing for a few minutes. They are the busiest little independent group of individuals. Each can make you smile, cause you sleepless nights, and give you the most love and joy you have ever experienced in your life. As a quilter, designing a children`s quilt is much like these little ones on the playground. Each of the unique children`s quilts stand alone in a sea of other unique handmade baby quilts, yet all belong to the collection entitled, "Children`s Quilts." The quilter smiles and sews, thinking of the child, who will cuddle under the quilt each night. Yet, those late nights spent making sure the children`s quilt meets with the high expectation of its maker, if not, long hours will be spent until the problem is resolved. But as the quilter adds the last stitches to the finished project, she knows that unique handmade quilt, will become another keepsake to her growing collection of the children`s quilts.
A traditional wooden quilt stand is the ideal furnishing for storing your quilts... at home. But if you plan to bring them everywhere, like in trade shows or in class, you might want to try and focus your attention on the portable types. These are usually available in steel construction, specifically aluminum, and could weigh around 14 to 17 pounds. A standard model is composed of a single horizontal beam that`s supported by vertical beams at each side. Most of the products in the market have fully adjustable horizontal beams, which could extend up to 10 feet to match any length of your trade show backdrops or quilts. The tripod feet can be made wider to increase their stability.
Now we are ready to hang our design wall and start using it. We just need to place bits of fabrics, blocks or quilt tops on the design wall, bring into line the corners and boundaries with the stitching lines. The consistency of the flannel will cause the fabric to fasten. There are times when we can use straight pins to break through the batting. This proves helpful in keeping all the sections in place.
With a preface written by Faith Ringgold and a foreword written by Cuesta Benberry, also quilters, writers and researchers within their own right, Spirits of the Cloth can be considered to be an academic work within the field of African American quilting. As a quilter, researcher, writer, historian, curator and lecturer regarded as an authority on the subject, Dr. Mazloomi`s scholarly work provides the uninitiated with a wealth of information on a topic virtually unknown before the latter quarter of the 20th century. The text highlights 150 quilts, referred to by the author as the "stories" of the artists who created them.
Often the quilt is a gift from a good friend and they want to display it on a quality rack. Some online retailers stock dozens of models. You will be able to find something that not only meets your budget but also matches your current furniture. If you have a lot of wooden things in your living room already an oak quilt rack might be a good match. Some other people might prefer something metallic. Often steel or brass racks will be available.
