Of course, things being what they are, it doesn`t take harsh weather to cause us to feel the need for some consolation. No-o! These days, the perils of routine living, alone, can put us on edge. Then, throw in the state of the world, and the economy, and it`s enough to send anyone running for cover. Although we often seek out the people who normally support us during trying times, in many cases, they`re just as overwhelmed as we are.
As with a handmade quilt, each block is put in a certain color pattern for the overall effect. There is nothing better than to create something that will last for years and be handed down to future generations. That is what happens with a beautiful crochet quilt that has been made with love and care. In addition, all who view it will remark on the amount of work that had to be done and admire the person who was able to complete such a thrilling piece of art.
There is a vast collection of books on quilting in existence today. Spirits of the Cloth: Contemporary African American Quilts stands out among them. In this book, Dr. Carolyn Mazloomi gives African American quilters, an emerging group within quilting, a voice to be heard and an opportunity to be recognized for their outstanding contribution to the field of both art and quilting. Not only does this book outline in detail the beginnings of African American quilting and how it has progressed through the years, it also provides stunningly beautiful photographs of quilts in this genre.
Many manufactures also offer metal quilt racks through online dealers. The brand names along with the pictures and detailed reviews are also presented on the websites. The metal racks are very sturdy and well built with good antique finishes in gold or silver. They also mention other important details such as the number of quilts that it can hold, the weight capacity and instructions for assembling. These come in the form of scrolled ones too, and provide a convenient method of storing.
For making the design wall, we need to stick the three layers of fabric that go into the making of the quit, batting and fastening them together with the help of safety pins. Using a walking foot, we need to stitch on the vertical, marked line down the center of the fabric and continue sewing vertical lines out to the rim of the fabric. Once that is done, we need to stitch the horizontal lines in the same manner. Once the entire vertical as well as the horizontal lines is sewn, we need to straighten and square the edges.
